After gaining a diploma in journalism, I started working as a
cultural correspondent for a daily newspaper to gain practical experience. I
was guaranteed to get 5000 monthly salary. I was sent for reporting various
literary and cultural activities of the city on behalf of the newspaper. Soon I
was identified as the city cultural volunteer. My mother was very happy to get
my desired job. His concern for me went away. But immediately he expressed his
second wish to me that, 'Son, now bring me a daughter-in-law, then get rid of
the troubles of the house' I said 'Mother, I have to move forward a lot. I can
think about this only when I get a higher job. Because just think, how would
three people survive in such a low salary in this era of true inflation? I do
not know anything! I want a daughter-in-law Tell me if you have a girl of your
choice. I will meet her parents and talk about the relationship. If this is not
the case, then the girl I like as a daughter-in-law will have to accept you.
This warning of my mother caused a serious problem in front of me. I had not
yet seen any girl whom I liked as a wife. I pleaded with my mother and
persuaded her to stay a few days so that in the meantime I get time to think
about it. Two to three months passed. One day the boss gave me an envelope and
said, 'Tomorrow is to go to the coverage of the award distribution ceremony to
be held at the city Auditorium at seven o'clock in the evening. The next day, I
reached there at exactly six-thirty. Seeing the space fixed for the journalists
and sat in a chair.
The
organizers requested the city's prominent veteran, social worker, and freedom
fighter to come on stage as a guest. The announcer handled the mic and said
'Ladies and Gentleman' is important this evening. A talented music artist and
social worker will be honored with the award. That talent is Miss Jessie. She
is a music instructor at a local blind school. He has made good use of his
musical talent for the section of the society which is looked down upon. He is
a section, disabled. Miss Jessie's voice is very sweet. He has dedicated
himself to the service of the handicapped and has tried tirelessly to raise
resources for them. Sad Miss Jessie is unable to see with eyes. We are celebrating
this year not only in India as International Handicapped Year all over the
world. The basic objective of which is to work in a planned manner to
rehabilitate the disabled and to give them a respectable place in society. The
government has also honored her for his services. I will pray that they come to
the stage and accept it as a frivolous prize award on behalf of the government.
In a few moments, two volunteers take on Miss Jessie. Miss
Jessie is given a flower gift, then a check and award letter of 10,000 is given
as a prize, the auditorium resonates with the applause. After the conclusion of
the program, I reach out to interview Miss Jessie. Miss Jessie My name is
Roderick and I am the correspondent of the 'New India' daily newspaper. I would
be happy if an interview with talent and social service like you are published
in our magazine. So that you become the pillar of motivation for maximum
people. My first question is that you have decided to uplift the disabled
through music. Was your interest in music since childhood? This is a long
story. In childhood, I lost my eyes due to smallpox. After this, I slowly fell
alone in the house. She began to spend time singing in her broken voice.
Sometimes thinking that it is better to die than live like this.
My distant uncle
raised me from that situation. On whose orders I was admitted to the Blind
School. There I got an opportunity to advance in the field of music. I have
graduated in music. After asking many other questions, I asked the last
question and said, 'This is a personal question. Wouldn't you like to make your
own family by getting married? 'There was no time to think about it and who
would marry the blind?
Our society has not
yet been able to think so vastly. If progressive-minded youth come forward,
they can support us. I left Miss Jessie and came to the office. The next day
this interview received favorable responses from the readers. At dinner, I told
my mother about Jassi and I asked about marriage and my mother kept silent.
It seemed like he was
not willing to make a blind daughter-in-law. After much persuasion, the mother
agreed. Early in the morning, I decided to go to Miss Jessie's house. I went
there and saw the music and was happy in the song, I sat there. But he got a
sense of my coming from his insight. They stopped in the middle of the music
and said, 'Tell me how did it come?'
I am Rodrik, I have
come to tell you the reporting of yesterday's program. I kept reading and was
also seeing Miss Jessie's facial expressions. Jessie reacted saying, "It
is very well-cultured reporting." Thank you. I said that after some time I
tried to say something but I did not dare to say anything. Jessie said 'Looks
like you want to say something' I said yes if you agree. I want to marry you, I
am proposing this with a sincere heart, not to show favor or pity on you. I
have also convinced my mother. He is ready to make you his daughter-in-law with
pleasure. I assure you that if you want to do social service even after
marriage, I will never stop you.
I looked at Miss
Jessie's face, she was happy in her eyes, after a few moments of silence,
Jessie said, 'I am not capable of marrying you. I will become a burden on you.
I said, 'You will not
be a burden on me, but will be with me as a companion in life's journey. Miss
Jessie said 'I am really happy'.And with this, both of them held each other's hand and the search for both was over. ...
