Saalumarada Thimmakka, also known as Aalada Marada Timakka who planted thousands of trees in Karnataka State India she reached 107 years of age. She has also been awarded the Padma Shri for her contribution to nature. Sallumarada Thimakka means in the Kannada language 'Line of Trees'. She is known as 'Tree Mother''. She devoted his entire life to the environment. She has planted more than 8000 trees in about 66 years. These include more than 400 Banyan trees. Thimakka is the oldest environmentalist in Karnataka. She has received many local awards and honors for her work.
Thimkka's life is a story of patience and determination. In
which there were many ups and downs. Even after a long time of marriage, they
had no child. Due to this, Thimkka started mourning. She began to find his life
meaningless. Then her husband got her out of this shock.
Together with his wife, he started planting banyan plants on the
road lying vacant on both sides of his village road. Both of these plants began
to look like their children. This gave a new direction to Thimkka's life. After
this, she would look at the vacant area, plant saplings.
After her husband's death, she continued to contribute to nature
alone. The plant according to the season. Due to this contribution, in the
fiftieth year of her age, Sallumarda's surname was added to her name. Which she
considers her honor. She wants the next generation to understand the importance
of trees and the environment.
The economic situation of Thimkka's family was not strong. This
was the condition. That the husband and wife used to collect their food by
laboring in other fields. Thimkka says, 'My husband used to dig the pit, I
would plant saplings in it and provide manure and water. Over the decade, those
plants turned into hundreds of mature trees. The listening road of the village
is covered with the shade of these trees today. This work of Thimkka gained
recognition among the people in the 90s. Before this, she was quietly engrossed
in her work for decades. Her inspirational story has found a place in school
books too. She has made hundreds of people aware of saving the environment and
has become an environmental protector
